I’ve said it many times, but I think Antico pizza is overhyped and inconsistent, and it’s not on my regular pizza rotation. I don’t want to wait in line and deal with the chaos to get a sloppy made $20 pizza with 80% margins that could be super doughy. However, they do use quality ingredients – the meats and cheese are quite good, and I can’t get enough of those oil packed .
That’s why I think the calzone is the best go-to move at Antico. They are big, and packed full of good stuff, and the spicy “Vesuvio” version we had is loaded with just enough super creamy ricotta. My only gripe is that I wish they didn’t pre-cut the calzone, as it gets cold more quickly. Next time I will see if they will honor that request.
The calzone reheats very well too, by the way.
