in atlanta, dining out

Hey, I have a blog. Check out my lunch at Chickabiddy.

In an effort for me to dislike Atlantic Station more, the gods decided the first time I would go there in months, they’d throw in a tennis tournament with many streets closed and lots of traffic. Figures.

The restaurant was very full. We would have had to wait it we didn’t spot a few bar seats open.

A half hot chicken was the best thing we ate. The hot sauce, which I’m fairly certain is Tabasco based, is hotter than I’d expect, the vinegar punch quite pleasing. They need to do a slightly better job of sauce coverage. The cornmeal batter is not my favorite, and is thick in parts. Chicken is extremely tender, definitely not overcooked. Vegetarian “chili” cheese fries are a pass.

Fried chicken sandwich is dying for seasoning, especially to complement the bitterness of my burnt bun.

Spicy green Tabasco wings had good flavor, but the skin had not rendered out enough, and the chicken not cooked enough (but not under cooked per se) to easily tear away from the bones of the flats.

Maybe these few comments sound negative overall, but Chickabiddy shows promise, especially if you like going to Atlantic Station. I’d easily order the spicy fried chicken again. I need to try the Piri Piri chicken which is wood grilled vs the rotisserie version at Bantam & Biddy. It’s a very fine addition for AC, that is, if you can tear yourself away from Copeland’s Cheesecake Bistro.

When we went (admittedly 4 days after opening) the service was very friendly but slow as Christmas, I think we waited 15 before anyone brought us water another 30 for food. They didn’t have the chardonnay chilled so I ordered Sauvignon Blanc and was served Pinot Gris — which was very good btw. Our orders were totally messed up, I got dark instead of white, he got fried white instead of hot dark. I agree with your assessment of the breading. We weren’t complaining, knowing it was their first week but gave friendly constructive feedback to our server who brought Shaun Doty and the chef over to hear. They made a great effort to make up for it, we refused a comp but they gave us some sweets to take home. We’ll give it a while to settle out but we’ll try it again.

Ugh. Loathe Atlantic Station. Last time we went was to help out a friend who was waiting tables at the Hudson North popup. Haven’t missed it since.

  • Thanks for sharing your account. Sounds like they need to work out some things, just like they did at Bantam & Biddy, which was quite good last time I visited.

  • Overlooked

I’ve had a couple decent meals here. The fried chicken sandwich with fries and the thai chili and peanuts wings were items I would order again.

However, yesterday, I CHOSE this restaurant to dine in prior to watching a movie. To my disappointment, no one on staff acknowledged my existence. Literally, for over 5 minutes, I stood at the counter with the register with the chalk-written sign” (please) wait here to be seated”. A few minutes later, two young ladies came and received immediate acknowledgement as I still stood by the counter for another brief moment and then left. The place isn’t that large. Most of the diners were outside on the patio. I’m not sure why I didn’t receive the respect of (I’ll resist comparing to the Seinfeld “Soup Nazi” episode) someone on staff…not sure why I was overlooked…
