The last time I went to Sushi Mio was probably in 2001 when I was an intern at a nearby software company. One of the other interns, who was Japanese, took me here. It was the first time I ever heard the expression “bento box”. I liked the variety and remember enjoying my experience.
My dentist is right next door to Sushi Mio, so when I was up there a few weeks ago for a cleaning, I decided to give them another go. (Note – I’m a huge dork and participated in a commercial for my dentist, which he created for a popular business recommendation website, good luck finding it!)
The first time I visited Sushi Mio, I could probably count on one hand the number of times I had eaten sushi. I had no baseline for comparison. So I was really curious to see what I thought this time.
I ordered a sashimi plate, which came with rice and salad. The salad was simple with a tasty ginger dressing, the same as you’ll get at a variety of sushi restaurants during lunch. I can’t say I was ecstatic about the sushi. It didn’t look too bad, but almost all the fish had that almost-frozen texture and taste. It was way too cold and hard in the middle of most pieces. The wasabi mousse stuff didn’t really do it for me texturally either. I realize most wasabi isn’t the real deal, but this stuff grossed me out.
The service was outstanding, and I liked watching the friendly sushi chefs work at the bar, but I probably won’t be driving all the way up here just for sushi. For this general area of ATL, I still think Circle Sushi is a better option, but Sushi Mio isn’t a bad and inexpensive lunch spot if you are looking to stay in this particular area of Roswell Rd.
