Happy Friday! Here’s a quick post with what’s going on in my food brain.

First, today I am signing up for the Cabbagetown Chomp and Stomp. This annual event features a 5K fun run, bluegrass music, and most importantly, Chili eatin’ !!

In case you don’t know, I love chili, and this year Cabbagetown will hopefully be in awe of my two-time award winning tequila chili. I attended this event last year, but this will be my first time entering. Entry is $35, plus you need to make at least 5 gallons of chili. The event provides you with a booth and everyone goes around and tastes your chili, listens to music, and has a overall good time – yuppies and hipsters alike. Prizes are given to the top 3 chilis. If you are interested in getting on team Sobeck for this event, let me know. I could use help.

The Chomp and Stomp will be used as a warm-up for the 2nd Annual Liberty Park Chili Society Cookoff, again taking place at my house, on November 15. I will be sending out more details in the next week or two to everyone on the initial eVite list. So far we have 30 confirmed attendees and hopefully we can break last year’s record of 11 chilis entered. If you have not received an invite, and would like to attend, shoot me an email or message me on facebook or twitter. Don’t like using such electronic mediums? Then what are you doing reading a food blog? Shouldn’t you be at home reading the Joy of Cooking? :-)

Next up is the announcement of the Buckhead Life Restaurant Week. This will be going on this upcoming week, as well as the week after. The event is in celebration of their 29th anniversary, so each of their restaurants will be featuring a $29/person prix fixe menu. The menu will change from the 1st week to the 2nd week. More info here. I plan on going to Kyma this Wednesday if you want to tag along.

Finally we come to an end… Today I am thinking of some meals I can cook tonight, taking into consideration that I am doing my first triathlon this Sunday. Yes, it’s only a sprint triathlon but I have been training hard and I don’t want to mess myself up the last two days by eating poorly and drinking (too much) alcohol. Unfortunately there is a Georgia Tech game tomorrow.

Here’s what I’m thinking: fresh pasta with spicy chopped tomato sauce, asparagus, and blackened chicken & a salad of arugula and blue cheese with a pear viniagrette dressing. Other ideas include risotto with peas, and seared tofu with stir fry. Any suggestions from the interwebs?
