Pain Killer

Attending a wedding, I spent some time in the US Virgin Islands this past weekend. It was gorgeous and fun and I got sun-burned and drank beach drinks. What drinks, you may ask? Mostly painkillers, an island favorite.

For a vacation-ey, coconut drink, most people initially think of the pina colada, which are mostly comprised of coconut cream and coconut milk and is blended. The painkiller, trademarked by Pusser’s Rum, contains much less coconut milk, some pineapple and orange juice, and is best served on the rocks, topped with a dusting of nutmeg. They go down easy. Very easy.

Hammering down a few before noon, then participating in beach olympics 200 meter ocean swim sprint may have been a regrettable choice…a poor decision quickly forgotten. After a few more painkillers.

BONUS DISH. The staff deep-fried mahi mahi bites and tossed them in buffalo sauce and brought them down to the beachfront. That’s pretty much paradise in my book.

This used to be a blog for the people- about chicken wings and home cooking. Now the writer travels to exotic locations in Caribbean and eats fancy meals in Las Vegas. What a sell out! Maybe I’ll put on a monkey suit and come over to your house for tea and strumpets.
